Kristallnacht Commemoration
The Holocaust Committee held their annual Kristallnacht Commemoration at the Long Beach, New York City Hall on November 5, 2006. There were over 200 people in attendance including public figures, members of clergy and nearly 20 Holocaust Survivors. Sally Frishberg, a Holocaust Survivor from Poland featured in the film "Voices in the Attic", was the keynote speaker at the Commemoration. Next Year's Commemoration is scheduled for November 4, 2007.

Walter Wolff - Holocaust Survivor speaks

Born in Achen and raised in Frankfurt, Germany, Walter and his brother were arrested by the SS one day after Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass. Upon their release, they fled to Italy. Walter survived because of the willingness of strangers to risk their lives on his behalf. Now living in Long Beach, New York, Walter is a sought after lecturer on the Holocaust and a recipient of the prestigious New York State, Louis E. Yavner Award, awarded annually to individual's who have contributed meaningfully to Holocaust Education in the State of New York. Walter is also the author of Bad Times, Good People, which recounts his experiences in Italy during World War II.

At this session , Walter will we addressing approximately 20 students, ages 17 -19, visiting from Nebraska and Colorado as part of a trip to the area sponsored by the Nebraska Conference of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Nebraska and Rocky Mountain Regions. The group is being led by Reverend Bob Brauninger of the United Church of Christ in Burwell, Nebraska. Walter's address will be open to the general public. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.

The theme of their trip is "Genocide: From Dachau to Darfur. Why?" and in addition to hearing Mr. Wolff's story first hand, these student will also be visiting the United Nations in New York City. They will then travel to Washington D.C. to meet with their local Senators and Representatives to share their newly developed ideas and opinions.
